In 1965, Willie was driving him with his coworkers, when white supermacist Hubert Damon Strange, starting shooting
into their car.
Willie was shot in his neck.

He died 3 days later due to his wounds.

The plan of shooting a black person, was planned by Ku Klux Klan members the night before Willie was killed.
The men behind it belonged to a violent Neo-Nazi group, whose members were involved in the church bombings and
the murders of black people.
