In 2012, Rekia was hanging out with her friends in Douglas Park, when an off-duty Officer Dante Servin
came to the park to tell this group of friends to be quiet.
Then without any warning, the officer started firing at the group of friends with his unregistered gun.

He claimed that he saw one of them pull a gun.
Evidence showed that Rekia and her friends were all unarmed.

Rekia was fatally shot in her head.
