Lt. Col. Lemuel Penn
Lt. Col. Lemuel Augustus Penn, was a 47 years old African American,
he was the assistant superintendent of Washington DC public schools, a veteran of WW II.
In 1964, Lemuel was driving home with 2 other black officers, when they were spotted by 3 white members of the
Ku Klux Klan.
They followed his car, and pulled alongside Lemuel’s car, two of the KKK members in the car, raised their shotguns
and shot at Lemuel,
killing him instantly.
