Denise McNair

Denise McNair, a 11 years old little girl.
She liked playing baseball, and to sing in the church choir.

She and her friends used to take part in the Sunday morning’s sermon in the 16th Street Baptist Church,
a known church for civil rights activists such as Martin Luther King Jr.

On September 15, 1963, members of the Ku Klux Klan perpetrated a terrorist attack in that church,
by placing dynamite sticks under the church’s stairwell.

At 10:22am, the bomb exploded.
Denise McNair and 3 of her friends were killed. More than 20 people were injured.

None were prosecuted until 1977 through 2002,
because an FBI Director named J. Edgar Hoover did not believe that an all-white jury would convict them.

Birmingham became known as “Bombingham.”
